I will gather here things I have written (and those I will probably write!) around William Blake.
Several of them were part of the work that I did as a Trustee and then Secretary of the Blake Society.
The following articles I wrote for the campaign to acquire William Blake’s Cottage in Felpham and turn it into a centre for the dissenting imagination in 2014, a project that has been very dear to my heart from its conception and for which I worked with all the care, commitment and devotion that it deserved:

This is a transcript of the talk I gave on Golgonooza and the lessons learnt from a failed project at the Arts and Humanities Festival in King’s College in 2012.

Another project close to my heart was the Tiger-Tyger event, that did take place in 2014 and was the seed for future Blake Society projects: we took several children from Kids Company to London Zoo to read Blake’s “The Tyger” to the tigers. A video by David Vinall recording the event may be found in the Blake Society webpage.

Finally, the Power Point presentation of the talk I gave for the Blake Society in 2010, about my novel Ciudad doliente de Dios, inspired on William Blake’s Prophetic Poems. At that time the novel was not finished yet. It is now (in Spanish), and waiting for a publisher –they seem to be daunted by its length of 900 pages, but I still hope that the novel won’t have to be one of the items I add to this blog, so that you can read it in its proper book form… one day.

Last Saturday 3 October the first submission of my new fortnightly column “Lo que contemplas” (What You Behold) appeared in Laberinto, the cultural supplement of Mexican newspaper Milenio.
In that space I will share some reflections on the culture that we create and inhabit.
Latest news is that I’ll be soon in Mexico at the Zócalo international Book Fair in Mexico City, from 9 to 18 October.
I will be launching the anthology of British short stories Sombra del árbol de la noche, that I compiled and translated a couple of years ago and will be published next month, and the collection of British poetry around nature that I compiled and translated this year. Its title is Debajo la hierba. Arriba la bóveda del cielo, the Spanish rendition of John Clare’s “The grass below—above the vaulted sky”. Both books were commissioned by Mexico City’s Secretaría de Cultura and are being published in a co-edition with Elefanta del Sur and CONACULTA’S Dirección General de Publicaciones. There will be many other events at the Book Fair related to British literature in this year of cultural exchange between Mexico and the UK.
And, as you will see, I’ve opened a new page, You Become What You Behold, where I will be posting texts around William Blake, including some of the work I did during my time as a Blake Society Trustee, then Secretary, and during the campaign to acquire Blake’s Cottage in Felpham in 2014. Quizá les interese saber que pronto estaré en México, en la Feria del Libro del Zócalo, del 9 al 18 de octubre.
Presentaré una antología de cuento británico,Sombra del árbol de la noche, que terminé hace algunos años y se publicará el mes próximo, y la colección de poesía británica en torno a la naturaleza y el paisaje que reuní y traduje también este año. Su título es Debajo la hierba. Arriba la bóveda del cielo, la traducción de un verso de John Clare. Ambos libros fueron comisionados por la Secretaría de Cultura de la Ciudad de México y serán publicados en una coedición de Elefanta del Sur y la Dirección General de Publicaciones del CONACULTA. Habrá muchos otros eventos en la Feria del Libro relacionados con la literatura británica en este año de intercambio cultural entre México y el Reino Unido.
Por otra parte, como verán, he abierto una nueva página (You Become What You Behold) en la que pondré textos relacionados con William Blake, incluyendo parte del trabajo que hice como miembro del Comité y después Secretaria de la Blake Society, y durante la campaña para adquirir la casa en que vivió Blake en Felpham durante 2014. My reading will be dedicated to the memory of Rubén Espinosa, Nadia Vera, Yesenia Quiroz, Alejandra Negrete and Mile Virginia Martín, tortured and murdered on July the 31st in all likelihood by order of Javier Duarte, governor of Veracruz, and to all those murdered and disappeared in Mexico.

Mano Santa Editores has just published my book of poems Nieve, Agua. It comprises two long poems, one written in 2005, the other in 2011. The book is dedicated to the memory of Ana and Rita Guerrero. There is a limited edition of printed copies and it can also be downloaded from the publishers’ webpage (above).

Como ya había dicho, mi novela Odio fue publicada recientemente por LunArena, editorial independiente ubicada en Puebla.
Por el momento se está organizando la cuestión de la distribución, que como bien sabemos es ardua para las editoriales independientes, que encuentran muchos obstáculos, incluyendo los que imponen las leyes del mercado en las librerías. Por eso es importante que sigamos preguntando por los libros que nos interesan, para que los libreros se den cuenta de que hay otros criterios que deben atender, más allá del de rendirse ante los encantos de los best-sellers.
