Te extrañamos, Rita. Te queremos. Estás con nosotros, lo estarás siempre. Gracias por la alegría, por la belleza, por la risa. Gracias por la valentía, por el cariño y la lealtad. Gracias por haber compartido tanta vida y tanta creación, con tan enorme generosidad. Por tu presencia en mi vida. Gracias por cantar hasta el final. Por haber honrado el regalo de la vida hasta el último momento.

We miss you, Rita. We love you. You are here with us, and you will always be. Thank you for the joy, for the beauty, for laughter. Thank you for the courage, for the love, for the loyalty. Thank you for having shared with such generosity so much life and the creation of beauty. Thank you for your presence in my life. Thank you for singing until the end. For having honoured the gift of life up to the last moment.

Day of the Dead and Human Rights Crisis in Mexico

Justice Mexico Now is organising a discussion panel on the Day of the Dead tradition and the Human Rights Crisis in Mexico – a reminder that traditions cannot be assimilated in a vacuum that separates them from the reality experienced by actual human beings.

The day of the dead (1st and 2nd November) is one of the most vibrant traditions in Mexican culture and has rightfully captured the attention of people all over the world. In preparation for welcoming the souls of deceased relatives and friends, Mexicans set up colourful altars with flowers, tasty food, drinks, music and the most treasured items of their loved ones. But the vibrancy of this celebration contrasts with the darkness and emptiness that many families face as a result of the violent human rights crisis that the country is going through.

Join Justice Mexico Now this coming Saturday 5th November at 17:00 at NUT, Hamilton House, Mabledon Place, London WC1H 9BD to hear more about this country of vibrancy and violence. Together with Catherine West MP and Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of the Labour Party.

We will explore Mexico’s recent past, present and future of human rights violations and how we can help and contribute to protect human rights in Mexico. Also there will be a traditional altar of the prehispanic time and some mexican food.

Protection for Journalist Héctor de Mauleón/ Protección para el periodista Héctor de Mauleón

Mexican Journalist Héctor de Mauleón has been receiving continuous threats after his coverage in El Universal about drug and arms trafficking. I know Héctor, I’ve worked with him in the past and he’s an honest, courageous author and journalist. Please spread the word and, if you’re in the UK, contact the Mexican Embassy demanding the investigation and sanctions to those responsible of the threats, guarantee for the security of de Mauleón and all Mexican journalists so that they can do their work without fear and the stop to all harassment to journalists and Mexican citizens, to guarantee freedom of expression. Put pressure on the UK’s government as well so that it demands respect to human rights in Mexico.

El periodista mexicano Héctor de Mauleón ha estado recibiendo amenazas continuas por su cobertura para El Universal sobre tráfico de drogas y armas. Conozco a Héctor, he trabajado con él y es un autor y periodista honesto y valiente. Por favor corre la voz y escribe a las autoridades en México para que investiguen y sancionen a los autores de las amenazas; garanticen la seguridad de Héctor de Mauleón y de los periodistas mexicanos para que ejerzan su labor sin censura ni miedo; detengan el acoso a los periodistas mexicanos por su labor informativa y de investigación, y brinden la protección necesaria a los comunicadores y ciudadanos mexicanos, garantizando así el derecho a la libertad de expresión.
